A hub for both religious and community activities.

Temples in Thai culture are not only places for spiritual teachings but also custodians of the country’s rich traditions and art. Wat Chonprathan Rangsarit, located in Nonthaburi, Thailand is a temple providing an outdoor space for public meditation, ceremonies, and quiet reflection. As part of

the temple’s renovations, it required materials that would harmoniously blend with the nature, whilst withstanding the challenges posed by its uses and the climate.

The flows of people and water.

The outdoor deck space presented a unique set of challenges, focused on the constant flow of both people and water. As a key area for meditation and religious ceremonies, the space needed to be able to facilitate

a large number of visitors to form spiritual connections with nature. Many visitors would sit and get close to the material used, meaning that it needed to deliver a sensory experience as similar to natural wood as possible.

Additionally, the location’s exposure to frequent rainfall required a material that could handle water drainage efficiently to prevent damage or pooling. Previous experiences with wood plastic composite (WPC) had resulted in cracking and shrinkage, raising concerns about the flooring’s ability to withstand such dynamic conditions over time.

Meeting the technical challenge to deliver a space of respect.

The temple opted for Conwood Deck 12” D0 Gap T-lock in Amber Teak to solve these challenges. Its natural color and wood texture complement the temple’s traditional design whilst delivering the visual and tactile experience of a wooden decking platform.

Unlike WPC, Conwood’s products are more resilient against weathering and water exposure, maintaining strength and shape under harsh conditions.

The installation process was also simplified by Conwood’s T-lock system, which saved time and reduced costs by easily spacing gaps between each unit. This allowed for air

circulation and drainage, preventing water accumulation and ensuring water could pass into the soil below.

Conwood’s combination of durability, ease of installation, and sensory quality helped create a tranquil and long-lasting space for the monks and community members who use the temple for prayer and meditation. By choosing Conwood, the temple ensured that this important outdoor area could remain a peaceful sanctuary for generations to come.
