A beautiful, safe experience with 360-degree views of southern Thailand’s sea of mist.

Perched above Halabala forest in the Betong, Yala Province, is the Aiyerweng Sky Walk. This iconic skywalk, stretching over 63 meters, is celebrated as the longest of its kind in the world. Core to this achievement is the use of Conwood products.

Protecting people from the forces of nature.

Designers had to consider the impact of high winds, harsh weather and freezing conditions on the structure. The difficulty of access meant that materials needed to be light and durable to make installation and maintenance easier and safer. Additionally, the persistent mist, despite its beautiful appearance, brought with it the risk of slippery surfaces for visitors.

Responding to a demanding design challenge.

The structural rigidity of our products ensured the Sky Walk could withstand both the wind loads at such a high altitude and the constant foot traffic from tourists. The non-slip treatment on Conwood decking provides a safe and secure surface for tourists in the misty conditions that typically make natural wood slippery. Furthermore, Conwood’s resistance to moisture—eliminating the risks of corrosion, warping, swelling, or cracking—made it the ideal material for the region’s harsh and humid weather. For our construction partners, Conwood’s lightweight yet

durable nature helped simplify construction by making transport and assembly more efficient. In the long-term, this also reduces the long-term maintenance requirements and therefore costs—a critical advantage for a remote and challenging site like the Sky Walk.

Beyond its functional benefits, Conwood products contributed to the aesthetic harmony of the Sky Walk with its wood-like appearance. This allowed the structure to blend more cohesively into the environment, ensuring it wouldn’t detract from the surrounding landscape’s visual appeal. By integrating beauty, durability, and safety, Conwood has played a pivotal role in creating an iconic tourist destination that will inspire visitors for years to come.
